| One device will serve most patients, but if you need a reminder and
monitor for more than 4 drugs, a Multi-pack is the answer. With
some chronic conditions, multiple medications are the norm.
A substantial savings can be yours – two devices and daily uploads
cost only 50% more than one device. And three devices and upload
fees are only the price of two devices.
All 8 or 12 individual bin charts will appear on the same Smart Charts
webpage. The composite bar chart will show total of lid openings
for all bins.
HOW TO CONNECT THEM TO YOUR PHONE LINE
“DAISY-CHAIN” THEM OR NOT. You can connect the two or three
cradles to each other via their phone cords, with the first connected to the
wall jack and the last connected to the phone. Or, you can connect each
to separate phones if you have two telephone wall jacks in the home. Each
device/cradle will auto-dial to upload data separately, and will not interfere
with your phone conversations.

REGISTERING YOUR DEVICES
The 2 or 3 devices in a multi-pack are “married” in the
database. Thus, when you enter the serial number for one, it
will immediately provide a window showing the second device serial
number, asking you to confirm it. Remember, only one person can
be entered as the user of a multi-pack.
CAN A COUPLE SHARE A MULTI-PACK?
Although we don’t recommend it, two people in the same household
may want to take advantage of the lower cost of multiple devices and
upload fee. Confusion between who is taking what drugs is the
primary concern. Only one person can be entered as the user of
a multi-pack. Consequently, all drugs are tracked on one Smart
Chart set on a webpage for multi-pack plans. Consult the
caregivers who are observing your Smart Charts to see if the service
can be properly managed. Subject to caregiver acceptance, we
suggest the following approach if you opt to share a multi-pack:
• In entering the drug name on the website programming page, identify
it by person as well as brand. For example, enter in the patient’s
identity (such as “Dad’s Coumadin” or “Ann’s
Vytorin”) so that all drugs will be properly identified by
individual.
• In the allotted space above the bin, attach a blank drug label
and write on it the drug name along with the patient’s name.
• Separate each user’s pill bottles and MedSignals® device,
if you have two phone receivers in the house, so that no one will
confuse devices or pills.
Another risk in sharing a multi-pack is confusion in applying the
colored dots on pill bottles, associated with the proper bins. It
is advisable to separate the devices (in different rooms, perhaps)
and keep pill bottles near each with the colored dots that link a drug
to the right pill bin.
These are just a few of the risks. Since avoiding medical errors is a
large advantage with MedSignals, do bear in mind that these benefits
could be mitigated if you share a multi-pack.
